About Us

The heritage, the craftsmanship, and the story behind our home.

Stone by Stone

"Many of the original stone walls were rebuilt by hand, stone by stone, preserving the character of the old house."

Our Story

Fontana Leone began with a memory from my childhood.

When I was about eight years old, I was walking in Spili with one of my cousins when some tourists stopped us and asked where they could find Fontana Leone.

My older cousin told them that there was no such place in the village. As they were getting back into their car and leaving, he suddenly called out to them and explained that there actually was a place they were looking for — our well-known Kefalovrysi, with its 25 lion heads, from which cool, clear water flows continuously.

The name the visitors had given it stayed with me.
Fontana Leone.

Years later, that childhood memory became the inspiration for creating this home.

The house was built through several stages and with a great deal of personal work. In particular, I personally rebuilt much of the traditional stonework. The old stone walls had been constructed with earth and stones, and many sections had to be taken apart and rebuilt, stone by stone, preserving as much of their original character as possible.

It was a long process, with many stages and challenges, but the house was finally completed in the summer of 2021.

Fontana Leone is therefore more than simply a place to stay. It is the result of a childhood memory, years of work and a personal connection with Spili and its traditions.

We hope that when you stay here, you will not only enjoy the house, but also experience a little of the character, history and peaceful atmosphere that make this village special to us.

Welcome to Fontana Leone.
